If you’re an artist or creative freelancer, why not join our wellbeing walks? An opportunity to connect with others, take time out away from screens and enjoy nature. These walks form part of a programme of events supporting cultural freelancers in Gateshead in partnership with Gateshead Arts Team and North East Cultural Freelancers.

Artist Marcia Ley will take you on a walk to Hollinside manor, a 13th century manor house ruin. Along the way, we will take photographs and make notes to describe what we see or how we feel. Marcia will share some of her memories about how much the area has changed and give the group time to discuss their own memories of the area, if they have any. Together we will create a Haiku poem to describe our walk together.

Marcia Ley is an artist, lover of nature, person of faith, collector and walker. Marcia was a senior lecturer in Fine art at University Sunderland and is a member of WALK (University of Sunderland research group). She has led many artists walk projects.

“My work responds to all of these elements. I feel deeply connected to the natural world and I am passionate about improving our care for it. I work in the medium of printmaking, painting and collage. My home workshop ‘Garden Press’ is a space for my personal practice and also small group and one to one tuition.”
